Quilt Blocks

Here's the thing when you make friends, you open yourself up to pain and hurt. I have a dear friend from church who is battling cancer. She went from being an active mom to her daughter and 2 young boys to barely being able to get out of bed. We keep flip flopping from having a diagnosis of 4-5 years to probably not making it a month. It's a roller coast of emotions. And I'm only her friend.

She is part of a small group Bible Study at our church and over the past year our boys have enjoyed playing with each other. One of the projects our small group decided to do was to make up a quilt for her. So I got out my sewing machine and got to work...The colors look much better in real life, of course.

A heart at peace gives life to the body. A simple reminder that living in the peace of God gives us life.
It's so easy sometimes to give up in the midst of trials. A reminder to stand firm in her faith throughout.

God's love never fails us. No matter how difficult things get, He is still there.

As Christians, we have an amazing hope. It's not just wishful thinking, but a true hope for the future. The doctors and science will do what they can, but it is the hope in God that sustains us.

These 4 squares will be added to the squares the other women made and then made into a quilt to keep our dear friend warm and provide some comfort.

The Elusive Letter D

Every once in a while, I get the idea that maybe Fearless Flyer should actually learn something. So we're taking it slow with him and stretching out Little Hands to Heaven over two years. Last week, we were learning about the letter D. We talked about it, looked for it, traced it, even put it on the floor of the piano room with painters tape.

Here's the conversation: (mom = m, Fearless Flyer = FF)

M: What letter is on the floor?

FF: I don't know

M: Take a guess (keep in mind, we've been doing this for 4 days by this point)

FF: B!

M: How many humps does B have?

FF: Two...this isn't B. Can't we try again?

M: Sure, what letter is on the floor?

FF: C!

M: Does that look like C?

FF: Nope, C is missing part over here. (starts lifting up the tape to make it a C)

M: Wait FF, leave the tape there. Do you remember the alphabet? What letter comes after C?

FF: Um...

M: Let's sing it

FF: Ok, A B C...E F G

M: Hm, I think you missed a letter. Do you remember D?

FF: Yes! let's start over!

M: (Ok, this time, I know he'll get it) Ok, FF, what letter is on the floor?

FF: 2!

I think we're just going to skip D for right now. Maybe we'll have a better time remembering E. Oh and he's really good at sports so we should be just fine, right?

Here's Our Goofball

He doesn't look quite so goofy anymore, but still a major cutie!

And how well do you know me?

I was hoping to have some pictures up, but alas, it won't happen...so here's a teaser. I promise pictures on Monday.

Now...how well do you know me? Did you know that I'm scared silly by sunflowers? Yup, they stop me in my tracks. I've even had nightmares about them. But that's not the fear to get over now. My other greatest fear is large black dogs. My legs shake. My heart goes wild. I start to tear up. I feel like I can't breathe. And that's just when I see a large black dog walking at the park at the end of the block.

So what have we gotten? Yup, you guessed it, a large black dog. (and some of you were thinking I was going to say I am preggers again...silly people) So we welcome in our newest member of our family. Urlacher will make his first blog appearance on Monday. He's a 3 month old, black lab mix. I saw pictures of him online and absolutely fell in love. I figure that his such a cute little puppy that I'll love him as he grows. Right? Right?

Now I do realize that to some of you this really and truly isn't much of a shock, but to those who have known me for a while will see it that way.

See you Monday! And enjoy the Superbowl!
